In a decision of pure stupidity that will make India look backwards in the eyes of the world an Indian court ordered the arrest of Hollywood star Richard Gere on Thursday for kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at an AIDS awareness event. The judge found Gere guilty of violating Indian laws against public obscenity.

A message to the judge and the people who filed the complaint: it’s not the year 1900 anymore. Times change and you have to accept that. Stop making our country look stupid. Look at the following picture. In what way does it make sense to burn posters of Shilpa (or even Gere) for their acts.

Arjun Khanna’s new fashion line men’s wear was on display at the Smirfnoff Fashion Runway Show. Isha Koppikar and Amrita Arora were also present at the event cheering on the runway models. Amitabh has sold the rights of this year’s biggest wedding, of his son Abhishek to Aishwarya Rai, for more than Rs 5 crore to Travel and Living; a TV station based out of the U.K. The Bachchans first attempted to negotiate with U.K. Lifestyle Magazine “Hello” which had already bought the rights to the wedding photos of Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley for two million pounds, however a deal could not be reached with “Hello”. And here we sat thinking they just wanted privacy! This all makes the many uninvited guest scenario all together more peculiar.

Shilpa is so popular in the UK that she apparently wants to set up a residence in London to make life easier for her as she flies back and forth between London and Mumbai. Word is that she will be buying a Rs 2.8 crore ($675,000 USD) flat at Primrose Hill, one of London’s premier locations. The hill has a great view of Central London as you can see above.
